Created back in approximately 1982 by Roy Kleinburg, RAM was made as an actuarial program to help people solve problems financially and socially. Neither his user or himself would ever guess how his role would play out in the events concerning that of the Master Control Program, a fellow program named Tron, and a fabled user named Kevin Flynn. As the MCP gained power, he took hold of various programs he found useful to him and sent the rest to the "games" - almost assuring eventual if not immediate deresolution. RAM was one of those programs found unfit by the MCP and quickly found himself fighting for his life.
The games quickly shaped him into a decidedly skilled player over the cycles he was imprisoned, though he could never get to the level of someone like Tron. Still, he managed to survive long enough to meet Kevin Flynn. At first, he thought that Flynn was another program, as he was. There was also the fact that users were thought of as gods almost on "the Grid." Through teamwork Tron, Kevin, and Ram escaped during a light cycle game. He was injured later on during the escape which eventually resulted in him being deresolutioned (de-rezzed).
Using the same coding as before, RAM was re-rezzed on Roy's computer after Alan's proposition for his user to come back to Encom. He was then given various upgrades and added to the system.
While he does retain his previous memories, Ram knows nothing of the events after his deresolution. MCP wasn't destroyed yet, Isos are unfamiliar to him, all the upgrades of the new Grid are to be told, Clu's rise to power and fall, Rinzler's existence, and finally Kevin's highly probable death are all huge factors in this. It is important that this is known.
Personality-wise Ram is best known as being laid-back, maybe even something of a slacker. However, he has his more serious, down-to-business, and even caring moments. He took great pride in his work before the MCP threw him to the game wolves and genuinely enjoyed helping others. He has a long-standing and unfaltering sense of loyalty and belief in users, especially after meeting Kevin Flynn and seeing just a taste of what the user was capable of.
In this new system, he has white armor with light blue circuitry that's a bit simpler than his old design. His disk is also white with a light blue rim.
