Originally created by Kevin Flynn in 1982 as a hacking program, Clu was like the other half of Kevin. He did everything the user ever wanted him to do, following all instructions as if his very digital existence depended on it. After he was derezzed by the Master Control Program, Kevin rectified him and brought him along to create a new, perfect system along side him and Alan Bradley's security program, Tron. At first, he was thrilled with the idea of making a perfect system, utopia if you will. To please his user, and to go beyond his job and do everything possible, to reach maximum potential. However, once the Isos came into being, he felt that they were an abomination on what he and his user were trying to accomplish. Beings that functioned different than that of the programs, things that were independent from it. He felt it was wrong, that it shouldn't exist, but his user felt differently. In fact, he found himself being overcome with rage and jealousy as he watched his user fawn over these things, things he couldn't possibly relate to. They had agreed to create a perfect world for them, together, to change the world, to change everything. But Kevin's attention was no longer with him, and he realized that he needed to take matters into his own hands in order to get the job done. After a struggle, he realized what he had to do. Double crossing his user, his creator, he rallied programs, re-purposing them for his own use, and turned on Kevin. With each stroke, CLU grew stronger. Once he got a hold of TRON, the program had put up a relatively strong fight, before CLU went a rectified him, changing his way of thinking and turning him into a lackey, putting him on the sidelines this time, calling him Rinzler. From there, CLU went on a rampage, purging the system of all Isomorphic Algorithms that existed, in order to retain what he felt was perfection. After that, he created the system to his liking, turning it into a beautiful, functioning, yet dark place. However, he wasn't pleased with that. He wanted more, he wanted to take it out into the real world, to make his system and his perfection across the mortal globe. He was unable to do that without Kevin Flynn's identity discs. For hundreds of cycles, CLU tried to obtain the disc, but was never successful. Eventually, he sent out a signal out to the real world, alerting the attention of Alan Bradley who instinctively took it to Kevin Flynn's estranged son, Sam. That was when thing started to get interesting. Sam's arrival marked the change in the game for CLU moving it into his favor. As he tried to get Kevin out of hiding. Soon, he finally received Kevin's identity disc and it seemed he was on his way to his destiny. However, the old man intervened and in the knick of time, saved Sam and Quorra from CLU's destruction. Feeling the familiar sting of betrayal, CLU begged for answers, but even after receiving them, he turned on his maker once more in a fevered attempt at his one true desire. But it all plummeted as Kevin reintegrated CLU, destroying them both. TRON's return to his former self, he rebuilt the system, but rectifying CLU once more in the hopes of them turning the system to what it used to be, only better. CLU has a different attitude, working along side TRON to make the system better than ever. Yet something is still nagging in the back of his mind. Something buried. Something dark.
